Multimedia.
In this increasingly digitized world, establishing an online presence for a publication is crucial in building and retaining an audience as well as expanding on stories that’s can’t be told through words on a page. While our administration has historically not allowed The ReMarker to have its own website, we’ve still been able to build a platform through various vocations.
Broadcast journalism — Focal Point Podcast.
Sometimes, it feels like there’s just not enough column inches to encapsulate an experience. Since this podcast’s inception three years ago, its goal has been to expand on our writers’ personal columns — there’s so much to say, so many emotions to amplify and so much insight to be given. Through Adobe’s Audition Software, we’ve put together more than 10 “Behind the Column” segments and have garnered over 1,200 plays.
This year, we’ve produced some hard-hitting, issue-driven cover stories. As we handed out the papers and mailed them to various alumni and community members, one question consumed me: What are their reactions? In search of answers, I started a new segment called “Reactions to Cover,” in which community members respond to our coverage through their unique perspectives.

On the web — visit our paper.
While we’re not able to run a website, our paper is still present online for students, alumni and parents to enjoy if they haven’t received a print copy. It’s available on the St. Mark’s website in PDF format as well as on Issuu.
On the web — social media.
Social media is crucial to publications large and small to build and retain an audience. The Focal Point Podcast’s Instagram is used to inform our audience that a new episode of the podcast is out. I really appreciate the consistency and appealing vibe this page brings to the table. Click the image below to visit this page.
The ReMarker’s Instagram, however, is a little more untraditional — a testament to the various purposes it fulfills. It’s used to preview upcoming events in our school community, to notify community members that our newspapers and magazines are available on campus/online and even to inform older students about the nearest voting stations!
