Closing.
Don’t be mistaken.
While this portfolio highlights my accomplishments and successes as a journalist and editor-in-chief of The ReMarker, it represents much more — the incredible people I’ve met, the unparalleled perspectives I’ve heard, the advisers I’ve learned from and the brilliant teammates I’ve worked with.
I forever stand on the shoulders of those who’ve come before me — former ReMarker editors and staff members and, most significantly, history’s brave journalists who have broken boundaries and gone to endless lengths to allow for high school journalism to come about in the first place.
I’ve taken full advantage of the platform I’ve been given to challenge my community to keep improving, to cultivate informed students that’ll soon go out into the world and make a difference and to tell the untold stories.
Ultimately, when I’m asked, “Why journalism?” My response is always the same: the people. The people I’ve stayed up with till 2 a.m. in our publications suite and the people I’ve interviewed who’ve shown me that there’s still so much to learn and understand.
That’s why for the remainder of my career as a high school journalist and beyond, I’ll continue putting these people into the limelight.
Unparalleled perspectives.
Thank you for taking the time to read through my portfolio, which highlighted the people I’ve met and the perspectives I’ve heard. Journalism has shaped my high school career, and I have many people to thank for making everything possible:
Jenny Dial Creech, for always believing in me and for making my senior year as editor-in-chief a memorable one.
Ray Westbrook, for entrusting me to lead The ReMarker and for teaching me the basics of ethical journalism.
Mom and Dad, for your consistent encouragement and support — I know it’s been a crazy year.
Headmaster David Dini, for always trusting us to make the right decisions.
Morgan Chow, Arjun Khatti, Will Spencer, Keshav Krishna, Ian Dalrymple, Myles Lowenberg and Dillon Wyatt, for helping me run the paper.
Former ReMarker Editors Austin Williams and Robert Pou, for your mentorship and guidance.
Sal Hussain and Neil Song, for creating this website’s visual identity.
